Oakland, California.- Guadalajara once again showcased its quality football against its fiercest rival and deservedly claimed El Clásico de México in Oakland. As part of the Tour Rebaño 2026, Chivas took the field at the Coliseum determined to defeat the Águilas, and thanks to an Ángel Sepúlveda brace, they did just that, winning 2-0 in front of a sold-out crowd of more than 60,000 fans, the vast majority of them Rojiblancos.
The Rebaño Sagrado displayed its trademark movement and control of the ball from the opening whistle, maintaining its shape throughout the 90 minutes to control the pace of the match and limit América’s attacking efforts. In addition to the victory, the night was especially meaningful for four young players from the Cantera Rojiblanca, as Carlos Hernández, Leonel Calderón, Rodrigo Parra and Jesús Hernández all made their first-team debuts for Guadalajara.
With this victory, Gabriel Milito remains unbeaten in the 9 clásicos he has managed against América and Atlas, with 7 wins and 2 draws. Starting Monday, Chivas will prepare to return to Liga MX action and face their neighbors from across the city in a new edition of the Clásico Tapatío, which will take place this Saturday, October 10, at Estadio Jalisco.
The goals:- ‘SEPU’ DOESN’T MISS! After Alejandro Zendejas handled the ball inside the box and the referee awarded a penalty in the 13th minute, Ángel Sepúlveda stepped up from the spot and confidently sent the ball into the back of the net!
- WHAT A GOAL BY ‘SEPU’! Just 10 minutes later, Chivas put on a football masterclass in tight spaces. After a quick passing sequence down the right flank, Rúben González delivered a cross toward the edge of the box, where Ángel Sepúlveda connected with a header toward Malagón’s far post to send the ball into the back of the net.
Chances:* Great debut! Just three minutes in, a cross from Leonel Calderón nearly found its way into the back of the net.* In the 18th minute, Kevin Castañeda unleashed a shot from midfield that Malagón had to save, tipping the ball out for a corner.* The third was almost there! In the 67th minute, a pass from Efraín Álvarez found Leonel Calderón’s head, but his header went toward the América goal without finding the back of the net.* In the 79th minute, a Chivas effort came agonizingly close to finding the target, in another Rebaño attack that nearly turned the victory into a rout.
