The ‘Tala’ Rangel’s Chivas Debut

It was Sunday, October 1, 2023, when the ‘Tala’ made his long-awaited Liga MX debut. Guadalajara visited Toluca at Estadio Nemesio Diez, with the match ending in a 1-1 draw.

Beyond the result, that afternoon marked the first chapter of Rangel’s top-flight career. The young goalkeeper delivered a strong performance with five saves and 16 accurate passes.

A Journey Defined by Resilience

One match later, in the Clásico Tapatío of the Apertura 2023, the Zapotlán el Grande native suffered a facial injury that kept him sidelined for several weeks.

The setback came just as he was beginning to establish himself in the Rojiblanco goal. However, Rangel showed character. After recovering, he returned to the starting lineup and took ownership of Guadalajara’s goal, becoming the undisputed goalkeeper he is today.

His Numbers with Chivas

Rangel has defended Guadalajara’s goal in 112 official matches: 99 in Liga MX, nine in Leagues Cup, and four in Concacaf. During this span, he has recorded 37 clean sheets: 35 in the domestic league and two in Concacaf competition.

He was also part of a historic record for the Rebaño. On Matchday 10 of the Apertura 2024, against Rayados, Guadalajara reached 771 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal at home in Liga MX. With that figure, the team surpassed the 709-minute mark set by the Rojiblanco side in 1972.

A World Cup Goalkeeper with the Mexico National Team

His performances with Chivas also helped him establish himself with the Mexico National Team. The 2026 FIFA World Cup was a testament to that: Rangel took over the starting goalkeeper role for El Tri and delivered several standout performances throughout the tournament.

In five matches played, he kept four clean sheets. One of his standout moments came against South Korea, when he made a crucial save to keep his goal from being breached.

With the national team, he has made 22 appearances and recorded 13 clean sheets.

A Role Model for the Next Generation

Raúl Rangel has also become a role model for young players in the Cantera Rojiblanca. His commitment and discipline serve as an example for the players who dream of reaching the First Team and representing the colors of Guadalajara.

A Leader for the Nación Rojiblanca

From his debut to becoming a key figure between the posts for Chivas, the ‘Tala’ has made his commitment to this crest clear, earning the affection of the entire Nación Rojiblanca.

Congratulations on three years in the top flight, ‘Tala’!!!

Here’s to many more successes defending the goal for Chivas and the Mexico National Team!
