Birmingham City boss Chris Davies has admitted he has always been worried about his future amid fierce criticism from supporters.
Birmingham City’s faint play-off hopes are all but over after their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Derby County on Saturday.
The narrow scoreline didn’t tell the whole story, as Blues barely threatened the Rams in what was another toothless display on the road, with the hosts well worth the three points.
That leaves Birmingham ten points away from the top six with just seven games to go, so successive promotions now seem highly unlikely.

Even though they are a newly-promoted team, there is huge expectation at Blues given the ambition of their US owners, who have put serious money into building a talented squad.
Therefore, fans have become increasingly annoyed at recent performances, particularly away from home, with Davies’ side having lost 12 out of 20 games on their travels.
The loss at Pride Park saw the Blues away end jeer the team, and they once again questioned the style of play the ex-Spurs coach has implemented, with many feeling the build-up is too slow.
Naturally, that has prompted speculation about Davies’ future, and whilst he praised the fans, he admitted to Birmingham Live that he is ‘worried’ about losing his job, although he insists that has always been the case given the demands of the club.
“I’ve worried about my own future since the day I got the job to be honest with you. I knew when we were in League One if I wasn’t top of the league and winning pretty much every game I was going to be under pressure, so I’m just used to it.
“It’s been like that the whole time I’ve been here, and it hasn’t changed since we’ve come up to the Championship.
“I’ve always said the fans are great, they aren’t the problem, it’s what’s happening on the pitch. That’s my responsibility. For them to share and vent their frustration is fine. I think the fans are brilliant.”
As outlined above, the investment that has gone into this Blues squad means that many will see this season as a major underachievement, and it’s hard to argue with that.
Ultimately, that’s on Davies, and his comments here about always being under pressure are fair, because he knew when he took the job that there was a requirement to produce instant success.

Whether he deserves to lose his job for the performances this season is another debate entirely, and it’s right to point out that he will have credit in the bank for not just promotion last season, but the way Blues achieved it, as well as the record-breaking points total.
Obviously, that will run out at some point, and, for many supporters, it appears that point has been reached.
You would expect Davies to finish the season in charge, but a big decision is looming, and a lot could depend on how they end the campaign.
So, it will be an interesting one to watch, but you would expect more funds to be put into improving the squad this summer, and whoever is in charge of the first game of next season will be expected to have a team that can reach the play-offs at the very least.
