Sheffield United are set to sanction the loan exit of Louie Marsh

Sheffield United are set to sanction yet another January transfer exit in this month's mid-season squad revamp, with young forward Louie Marsh closing in on a loan departure from the blades.

According to Alan Nixon, Chris Wilder has given the green light for the forward to make a temporary exit from Bramall Lane for the second half of the season.

The 21-year-old has been unable to make a breakthrough into the Blades’ first team squad this season after returning from a stint with Fleetwood Town in the summer.

The youngster has come through the Yorkshire outfit’s academy system, and has even earned a couple of caps for the England U20 side with his performances elsewhere.

Marsh also spent time on loan with Doncaster Rovers, earning six appearances in League Two during the 2023/24 campaign, as well as playing 16 times at that level for Fleetwood last term.

Sheffield United agree Falkirk, Louie Marsh loan deal

Marsh is set to join Falkirk on loan for the second half of the season, as he seeks more first team experience at senior level.

It’s believed that Wilder has sanctioned the move, with the striker not currently in his plans, as the Blades eye a top six finish in the Championship.

Falkirk are competing in the Premiership and are currently sixth in the table and are in the mix for European qualification for next season.

Sheffield United will be hoping that Marsh can build on his recent experience in League Two and earn regular minutes under John McGlynn.

Marsh has been included in matchday squads since Wilder was brought back in as manager this season, but he has yet to receive a chance to compete in the Championship, and the arrival of Patrick Bamford has likely seen him fall even further down the pecking order.

Wilder’s side are 16th in the second division table, and elimination from the FA Cup on Sunday means their sole focus for this season will now be on climbing the standings and returning to the play-offs.

Next up for the Blades is a trip to face Charlton Athletic on 17 January in a 3pm kick-off.

Marsh scored twice from 16 appearances in League Two last season, and is not quite ready for the step up to the Championship.

So going out on loan for the second half of the campaign makes the most sense at this stage of his career.

Wilder must see potential in him to include him in matchday squads in the league, so a strong next six months could see him get his chance in the team.

But he needs to be playing regularly at this age, so it’s no surprise that Sheffield United are willing to sanction a loan.
