Getafe forward Christantus Uche suffered a serious knee injury in Thursday’s friendly at Monaco. AS reports it is to his right knee, will require surgery, and that he is expected to miss the entire season.

The damage followed an uncontrolled tackle by Christian Mawissa. The Monaco defender had been introduced in the 62nd minute and was sent off for the challenge.

Uche was taken off on a stretcher after heavy contact, having been struck on the shin while his supporting leg was planted.

Mawissa later issued an apology for the tackle, saying he had no intention to hurt the striker and wishing him a swift recovery.

Monaco won 1-0. The setback comes on the brink of the new campaign for Getafe and Uche.
