Christian Eriksen collapsed during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine in Odense on Sunday, and the match was abandoned.

Denmark were leading 2-1 when the midfielder, capped 151 times, went down. The Danish federation said the 34-year-old Wolfsburg player was conscious and, in the circumstances, relatively well.

After treatment on the pitch, Eriksen, who wears a pacemaker, rose to his feet and made his own way to the ambulance.

He briefly lost consciousness but quickly regained it, and medical staff were soon in contact with him.

Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during the Euro match against Finland on 12 June 2021 in Copenhagen, scenes that were witnessed worldwide.

He later had a subcutaneous defibrillator fitted and resumed his career, joining Brentford in January 2022, returning to play in February after more than eight months out.
