Christian Eriksen leaves Wolfsburg three months after second cardiac episode | OneFootball

Three months after suffering a second cardiac episode, Christian Eriksen has left Wolfsburg by mutual consent, ending a contract that was due to run until June 2027.

The club said in a statement that the decision over his future rested with Eriksen and that they had agreed to his request to terminate the deal. Wolfsburg were relegated to the 2. Bundesliga.

The 34-year-old suffered the incident on 7 June during Denmark’s match against Ukraine. He continues to recover, having used an implantable cardioverter defibrillator since his first cardiac arrest in June 2021.

Eriksen is following a return-to-play programme at home in Denmark. He joined Wolfsburg as a free agent and made 34 appearances in one year.

He has prioritised being close to his family and welcomed finding a solution with the club. After a spell of ups and downs, he believes VfL are in good hands for a push back to the Bundesliga and that the club has a bright future.
