Head coaches Christian Gross and Adi Hütter both spoke to the media in a digital press conference after Frankfurt’s 3-1 win over Schalke on Sunday (17/1). Mark Uth also gave his opinion on the defeat.

Frankfurt deservedly won the game and the result more or less reflected the way the match went. We need to work on our weaknesses. We gave the ball away too easily too often in midfield, although they put us under constant pressure. I expect us to attack with more power in the future and create more pressure on the wings. We are desperate to win the upcoming home game against Köln – I’m expecting an intense match. All our energy will go towards this game now, but we’re still aware that this season isn’t a sprint, more like a marathon.

You couldn’t have written a better script for this match. It’s incredibly important for Luka Jovic to come back to somewhere he feels comfortable and that he scored two amazing goals just shows his quality. I thought we really deserved to win and we could have scored more goals. But the most important topic of the day is David Abraham’s farewell. He had a great game.

We didn’t get off to a great start but I thought we got a foothold in the game after the equaliser, and we won a lot more duels in midfield than we did in the opening 20 minutes. After the break, we didn’t take our chances on the counter very well. The other two goals we conceded shouldn’t have happened; both goals were the result of us losing possession. After we went 2-1 down, we threw everything at them and pushed forwards and that makes it more likely for you to be caught out. We have to move on from this defeat as fast as possible. We have a very important game against Köln on Wednesday, which we want to win at all costs.
