Christophe Gleizes’ mother Sylvie Godard and stepfather Francis Godard will take the ceremonial kick-off before the Coupe de France final between Lens and Nice at the Stade de France on Friday.

Reporters Sans Frontières said on Thursday the gesture forms part of a French Football Federation show of support for the SoPress journalist, who has been held in Algeria for 11 months and was sentenced to seven years for advocacy of terrorism.

Around 800 #FreeGleizes scarves will be handed out in official stands and to journalists, and the same hashtag will appear on pitchside markings.

The stadium announcer also plans to highlight his situation. He has been detained since 29 June 2025.

RC Lens previously staged a charity match against Rouen to support his family, and other Ligue 1 clubs, including OGC Nice, have called for his release.
