Christophe Pelissier has been removed as AJ Auxerre head coach. The club informed him on Friday, with talks over the terms of his exit still to come.

According to L'Yonne Républicaine, the 60-year-old was dismissed and will not continue into a fifth successive season, having taken charge in October 2022.

He was under contract until June 2027, and his departure is expected to cost about 2 million euros including charges. The decision was taken by Chinese owner James Zhou from Beijing, where he has been since last summer, and was conveyed by executive president Baptiste Malherbe, who holds signing authority.

In recent weeks, Pelissier clashed with sporting director David Wantier, who had previously held the role, which the club formalised in October, and working together next season was deemed untenable.

Wantier is due to travel with Malherbe to a summons from Zhou in Beijing next Wednesday, and he has not yet been confirmed in his post.

Supporters have rallied behind Pelissier and called a gathering for Saturday at 14:00, mainly to demand Wantier’s departure. The Anglo-Belgian Will Still, out of work since leaving Southampton in November 2025, has been mentioned as a possible successor.
