Christopher Nkunku is using the international break to sharpen up after a subdued start to his much-heralded RB Leipzig return.
The 28-year-old has one goal and two assists from his first five competitive games back. Bild reports the club link his early struggles to a curtailed pre-season that limited fitness and understanding with new team-mates.
Last week in France he worked with a personal coach, mixing ball drills with specialised resistance work, including being strapped to a wall with an elastic band to build explosiveness, acceleration and speed.
Those drills will continue with the squad this week and next. He is also expected to deepen his grasp of head coach Martín Demichelis’ tactical ideas.
The aim is to have him primed to make a greater impact when Leipzig resume Bundesliga action against Eintracht Frankfurt on October 10.
