Nkunku previously played for Leipzig from 2019 to 2023 after joining from PSG. He finished as the Bundesliga’s top scorer in 2022/23 with 16 goals, then joined Chelsea for €60m.

His spell in west London was disrupted by injuries, and he struggled to match the form that made him one of Europe’s sought-after forwards.

Now at Milan, the 28-year-old made 32 league appearances last season, scoring seven and providing three assists. His contract with Milan runs to 2030.

If completed, the move would take Nkunku back to the Bundesliga, where he registered 70 goals and 56 assists in 172 Leipzig appearances, and offer a chance to rediscover his best form.
