DR Congo head coach Sébastien Desabre has named his World Cup squad, which begins on 11 June, with Brian Cipenga included. His call-up means he would miss any potential promotion play-off for Castellón.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Castellón are working to keep Cipenga available for the end of the regular season. The player and the Congolese federation have shown willingness for him to delay his arrival by a couple of days so he can help in the final match, when Castellón host SD Eibar at SkyFi Castalia on the last weekend of May.
Cipenga is one of Pablo Hernández’s most dangerous wide options. This season he has played 28 matches, scoring six and assisting nine, despite missing several games for international duty.
It is his second campaign at Castellón. Last term he produced three goals and one assist in 17 appearances.
His contract runs until 30 June, and a renewal currently appears difficult.
