Ciro Immobile has retired at 36, the former Italy and Lazio striker ending his playing career after a short spell with Paris FC. The centre-forward was among Serie A’s most prolific scorers.

According to Football Italia, his contract with the Ligue 1 club was due to run until June 2027, but he chose to stop because of injury problems, despite two goals and two assists in 12 games last season.

He joined Paris FC in January after six outings for Bologna earlier in the campaign. The news was delivered to his Paris FC team-mates today, and he fought back tears as his record was highlighted, including 656 games and 350 goals.

Immobile scored 17 goals in 57 senior caps for Italy, lifted the European title with the Azzurri in 2021, and won the Serie A Capocannoniere award four times.

He came through Salernitana’s academy before moving to Juventus, then featured for Siena, Grosseto, Pescara, Genoa, Torino, Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla, Lazio, Besiktas, Bologna and Paris FC.

His most significant spell was with Lazio from 2016 to 2024.
