Mark Sykes drew another stop from Vítek's opposite number (15.), while Richard Kone's close-range header was clawed away (42.) as chances arrived at both ends.

After the restart Joe Walsh tipped away Scott Twine's drive (51.) and Ronnie Edwards headed narrowly wide (53.). Paul Smyth then missed the far post from a through ball (81.), before Walsh gathered Sam Morsy's shot in the third minute of second half stoppage time.

An enforced change disrupted the visitors when Max Bird went off injured and was replaced by George Earthy (83.).

City registered 13 attempts with six on target. Queens Park Rangers produced 11 efforts, testing Vítek twice.
