City launch website dedicated to female athlete health support and education | OneFootball

Manchester City are proud to announce the launch of ‘Her City’, a website dedicated to female athlete health education and support.

The first of its kind in the WSL, the site is a space for Women’s First Team players, coaches, support staff, academy players and parents to learn more about a crucial and largely underdeveloped area of athlete health.

A two-year process spearheaded by Director of Performance Services Emma Deakin, Physical Performance Scientist Rosie Anderson and PHD Student and First Team Nutrionist Sarah Malone, Her City is the culmination of PHD studies into menstrual, pelvic and breast health, as well as nutrition.

In the process of those studies, the desire to deliver an impactful, physical tool such as an online platform became apparent, which also allowed for a more unique experience based off individual needs, queries or concerns.

The website covers all four of those elements in easily navigable sub-sections, providing peer reviewed information critically analysed by leading experts, which will continue to be reviewed and updated alongside further discoveries.

Its aim is to provide a space to improve knowledge, develop critical analysis skills and also strengthen communication in both a footballing and home environment.

Resources are also available on each area including posters, visual explainers, audio resources and downloadable educational assets, with areas also tailored to the needs of each different group, from players to parents.

Another key element of Her City focuses on ‘myth-busting’ – helping to equip those who use the website with the knowledge needed to critique any misinformation they may find on social media or elsewhere.

A contact form is available on the website to allow individuals to speak with experts at City in a confidential manner and feel safe to report concerns or ask questions.

Crucially, Her City is also accessible to parents of academy players to help them support their children in a key developmental phase of their early lives and careers.

Emma, Rosie and Sarah’s efforts have already broken new ground in the WSL, but the eventual ambition is for the website to be available to all women working across City Football Group.
