Brentford Women ended November with a 3-0 away victory in the League Cup against Clapton Community Women at the Old Spotted Dog Ground.

First-half goals from Habeebat Gbajabiamila and Alissa Down put the Bees in the driving seat, before Cloe O'Brien scored her first Brentford goal late on to seal the win.

Brentford's first clear sight of goal came on seven minutes when Lucy Potter, who wore the armband for the day, swung in a corner that Makeba Black connected well with but her header was straight at Ella Bowles.

Ashley Cheatley had the next chance for Carly Williams' side, spinning her defender with a clever turn but striking the legs of Bowles in the Clapton net from a tight angle.

The Bees had a scare on 21 minutes when the ball was played into Leigha Bradding-Butler who took a positive first touch accelerating away from Down but dragged her strike just wide of the far post.

Egle Trezzi then had a chance for the home side, curling an effort the wrong side of the post via a deflection from the edge of the box.

The west Londoners were riding their luck; on 40 minutes Bradding-Butler robbed Rebecca Teale of the ball and lobbed the back-peddling Sophie Boycott from range only to see her effort cannon back off the post.

It was Williams' side who broke the deadlock though on 43 minutes. Chelsie Berry did superbly to beat two defenders and square the ball to Gbajabiamila who had the simple task of tapping into an empty net.

Just before half-time Down doubled the lead with an excellent strike from long range to put the Bees in control at the break.

Williams made three changes at the interval with Kirsty Matthews, Paula Holguin and Khyri McKenzie replacing Teale, Cheatley and Maï Louvrier.

Berry almost got Brentford's third on the hour mark after she headed a deep free-kick toward goal but was denied by a combination of keeper and post.

The west Londoners were not home and dry yet though as Eliene Steiner reminded them they were still in a game with a fizzing effort that bounced just beyond the post on 71 minutes.

Ilana Harris-Walters, who was brilliant at right-back all afternoon, headed a chance wide from Potter's deep cross with 10 to play.

Boycott did really well to come off her line on numerous occasions to prevent Clapton chances, none better than a vital sliding challenge on 82 minutes.

Cloe O'Brien wrapped up the win for the Bees with two minutes left on the clock, converting from close range to score her first goal for Brentford.

In the end, it was a relatively comfortable 3-0 away win for the Bees who progress to the fourth round of the League Cup. They return to action in the LSE Premier on Sunday 7 December at home to Millwall Lionesses.

Carly Williams on "dominant performance" in League Cup win

Carly Williams was proud of the way her side managed the game in a 3-0 victory away at Clapton Community Women in the League Cup.

"I think it was a good performance. We saw the game out in the way we needed to and we're happy to get through to the next round unscathed," she said.

"The grpup dealt with a difficult atmosphere and that's a key experience. We learnt from that at Dartford and I don't think it phased them at all today."

"We're always looking for clean sheets. In recent weeks we've been slightly unlucky, but it was good to see out the game today and we dealt with the transitional element really well."
