After Boca’s 2-0 home win over Newell’s in the third round of Zone A in the Torneo Apertura 2026, Claudio Úbeda kept the door to the market ajar, while stressing he is awaiting the recovery of his strikers.

Lautaro Blanco and Leandro Paredes scored at La Bombonera, with debuts for Santiago Ascacibar and Ángel Romero. According to LaNumer12.com.ar, Úbeda reviewed the performance and addressed the chance of adding one more reinforcement.

Up front, the injury list is lengthy, with Edinson Cavani sidelined by lumbago, Milton Giménez by pubalgia, and Miguel Merentiel and Lucas Janson by muscle tears. He has turned to youngster Iker Zufiaurre, and another attacker remains under consideration. Asked about a fresh push for Marino Hinestroza after his move to Vasco da Gama, Úbeda declined to engage and said the case was closed.

Boca have been linked with Matías Arezo, the 23-year-old of Peñarol, and Ezequiel Ávila of Real Betis. Their names are among options being discussed for the current window.

Of the injured, Merentiel could receive medical clearance this week for his calf tear suffered against Olimpia in a friendly, then rejoin full training and possibly make the squad to face Vélez Sarsfield on Sunday. Cavani trained before the Estudiantes de La Plata match but is not yet at full fitness, working progressively without contact, and may step up during this long week before any decision on his return.
