Werder Bremen managing director Clemens Fritz says the club have had no approach from Leeds United for Romano Schmid, addressing weekend speculation around the midfielder.

"No one has contacted us about Romano. We are currently not expecting a transfer in the winter and are planning with him for the rest of the season," he told Bild.

Leeds had been admirers of Schmid and were thought to have spoken with his representatives before shelving January interest after Buonanotte arrived on loan.

Schmid has two goals and five assists in 17 Bundesliga appearances this season for Bremen.

The 31-cap Austria international is under contract until 2027.
