Club Brugge have revealed that experienced goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has picked up an abdominal muscle injury and will not return till after the winter break. The former Liverpool and Sunderland goalkeeper picked up the injury during the warm-up for Club Brugge’s Champions League clash with Arsenal in the week. Dani van den Heuvel will continue in goal for the time being as Nordin Jackers remains sidelined.

The 37-year-old Mignolet has been with Club Brugge since leaving Liverpool in 2019. In that time, the Belgian goalkeeper has won four Belgian Pro League titles and finally got his hands on the Belgian Cup at the end of last year. Mignolet has played 298 games for Club Brugge and should hit the 300 game milestone this season. Injuries have started to become a factor for the veteran goalkeeper however, who in spite of these has managed to maintain a high level of performance in past seasons.
