Club RACE to complete long-awaited Liverpool deal | OneFootball

Liverpool are sought-after for transfer talks as a potential deal is on the cards. One club is racing to get it done.

Liverpool need to sort out their options at centre-back. There’s no way around it.

The Reds thought they had four senior options for this season, only for an awful knee injury to rule out Giovanni Leoni. He almost certainly won’t play again this season - we might not see him for around a year.

Given Leoni’s injury came on his debut for Liverpool, Arne Slot has essentially played this campaign without a full array of options. Marc Guehi was supposed to arrive and give another elite option but Crystal Palace collapsed that deal right at the last minute.

That story may not be over, given Guehi’s contract expires at the end of the season. Still, Liverpool will need to solve that problem and find someone who can cover for Leoni.

But that’s not even all of it. The Reds are wanted in another defensive deal and it could happen right at the start of the transfer window.

Joe Gomez to AC Milan

Corriere Dello Sport claim AC Milan are eager to sign Joe Gomez as soon as possible. The Italian giants tried to sign the defender back in late August and probably would have if Guehi arrived at Anfield.

The report confirms that Gomez was completely on board with the move. Liverpool were happy to make it happen, too - they just couldn't afford to let the player leave if they didn't get the replacement they wanted in Guehi.

But with Liverpool almost certainly re-entering the centre-back market this winter, Milan will try again. Getting Guehi probably does allow for a move to happen, given his homegrown status.
