Manchester City’s Jack Grealish continues to be subject to widespread transfer talk this summer, with Everton becoming the latest club to be linked with the England forward.
But just days after reports emerged claiming David Moyes was a “huge admirer” of Grealish and keen to build his team around the former Aston Villa star, fresh claims now suggest that a deal is no longer under serious consideration.
The uncertainty reflects the wider complexities of Grealish’s situation, with Manchester City still open to discussions, but few clubs currently willing or able to meet the financial demands involved.
Grealish’s future has been a hot topic in recent weeks, as City explore options for a number of senior players who could move on either permanently or temporarily in the remaining weeks of the summer market. With the 29-year-old struggling for regular minutes last season, there is growing expectation he may depart the Etihad in search of a more prominent role.
While City have not actively pushed Grealish towards the exit door, the club are receptive to serious offers – particularly structured loan deals – as they look to rebalance their squad and wages. The arrival of attacking reinforcements such as Rayan Cherki, as well as the re-emergence of Oscar Bobb, has only increased competition in wide areas, leaving Grealish’s first-team prospects in question.
The situation is made even more delicate by the player’s own considerations off the pitch, as he and his partner Sasha Attwood raise their young daughter, and reports suggest he may prefer to remain in the north of England for stability.
However, despite links to Everton in recent days, a report from BBC Sport’s Simon Stone states that club sources on Merseyside have now ‘distanced themselves’ from a potential move for Manchester City’s Jack Grealish this summer.
Clarification comes after The i Paper suggested Everton were preparing to pitch a loan deal to Grealish, with manager Moyes interested in making him a central figure in their rebuild ahead of a permanent switch to their brand new Hill Dickinson Stadium.
It is also worth noting that Everton are not alone in showing interest, with West Ham and Tottenham among the clubs to have reportedly explored a potential deal for the England international. But, like Everton, those clubs are thought to favour temporary arrangements, likely requiring City to absorb a significant chunk of the player’s salary to make any agreement viable.
Looking ahead, much will depend on how quickly City can find a club willing to match their valuation, or at the very least offer a structure that benefits all parties. For now, Grealish remains a part of the club’s pre-season preparations, though he did not feature in City’s FIFA Club World Cup squad in the United States earlier this summer.
With just over four weeks remaining in the transfer window, the situation is still fluid. If Grealish does move, it will almost certainly be on loan, and only if the destination ticks both sporting and personal boxes, but whether another Premier League club steps forward with a concrete offer remains to be seen.
