The Colorado Rapids have signed goalkeeper Zack Steffen from Manchester City in the English Premier League. The 28 year old USMNT keeper returns back to Major League Soccer in which he departed back in 2019. Steffen has bounced around Europe since 2019, playing for the likes of Manchester City, Middlesbrough FC, and Fortuna Dusseldorf. Steffen is a 2x English Premier League Champion, an EFL Cup Champion, MLS Goalkeeper of the Year winner, MLS Best XI member, and MLS All Star. With the USMNT, Steffen also has won a CONCACAF Nations League title in 2019/2020.
Over the last few seasons, Steffen has had troubles consistently staying on the field. Whether it was opportunities to play at one of the best clubs in the world or injuries, Steffen needs a reset. In 177 career games played between Manchester City, Middlesbrough FC, Columbus Crew, Fortuna Dusseldorf, and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Steffen has recorded 51 career shutouts. He now heads to the Colorado Rapids who are in need of a reset themselves. The Rapids were the worst club in MLS last season. After hiring Chris Armas as their next manager in the club’s history, they have been busy. Steffen now arrives on a non-Designated Player deal along with a top free agent signing of Omir Fernandez. The Rapids seem to be listening to their fans and spending some cash in order to improve from the basement of MLS.
