Jamal Musiala has been working hard for his comeback for weeks and recently made an impressively advanced impression. The FC Bayern attacking star trained with the ball, looked for goal finishes and showed the ease that characterises him on the pitch. The moment of surprise was all the greater when the 22-year-old was suddenly not on the pitch as usual on Wednesday, but only working on the bicycle ergometer. A setback in the rehab plan?
A few hours before the Champions League match against Sporting Lisbon, sporting director Christoph Freund and coach Vincent Kompany had personally observed how far Musiala had already progressed in his rehab. The international appeared light-footed, dynamic and strong on his feet – an important impression for the Bayern managers, who are eagerly awaiting his return
However, the fact that Musiala took a break from the pitch on Wednesday was not a warning signal, as reported by tz. In consultation with the medical department, Bayern are working with a dynamic rehab model that deliberately includes load control. A regenerative day was part of the plan from the start. One day later, Musiala was already back on the pitch – with full intensity, duel exercises and goal finishes under the supervision of rehab coach Simon Martinello and co-trainer Floribert Ngalula

A few weeks ago, sporting director Max Eberl had not ruled out a comeback in December, but the Munich team have cautiously moved the date to January. The test match against RB Salzburg on 6 January is seen as the likely date. Musiala should not take any risks and only return to action once he has regained his full momentum
For Kompany, there is no alternative to this approach. The Belgian sees Musiala as a central building block for the second half of the season – and expects him to return quickly despite the long break. The impressions from training confirm this optimism
Although Musiala’s return is eagerly awaited, it brings a new sporting explosiveness, as the competition in the attacking center threatens to become fiercer than it has been for a long time. 17-year-old high-flyer Lennart Karl is playing an outstanding season and has dribbled his way into the limelight in the Champions League with historic records. Serge Gnabry has also been in strong form recently and has long been more than just a challenger in the battle for the role behind Harry Kane
On the flanks, the performances of Michael Olise and Luis Díaz speak for themselves, both of whom are considered set pieces under Kompany – a fact that allows Musiala to move even more into the center, where the competition is now enormous.
