Como executives to give up seats to elderly fans for Champions League debut | OneFootball

Como president Mirwan Suwarso and several other club executives will give up their seats so that elderly fans can witness the Serie A side’s debut in the Champions League.

Como enjoyed a stunning season in 2025-26, finishing fourth in the Italian top flight to qualify for Europe’s premier competition for the first time in its 119-year history.

Its maiden Champions League outing will come at home to RB Leipzig on Thursday, with tickets entirely sold out.

However, Suwarso announced on social media that he and other directors would give up their tickets for the game to allow some elderly supporters who missed out to attend.

The businessman, who has been president of Como since 2019, wrote on Instagram: “With the reduced capacity and the limited number of tickets available, unfortunately we cannot accommodate everyone who would have liked to be there.

“However, some club executives and I have decided to give up our seats for this match.

“We want those seats to be allocated to supporters who have waited the longest - fans born in 1950 or earlier, who have followed Como through every division and every era.

“We will be honoured to give up our seat for them.”

Como’s older fans have stuck through the club through turbulent times, with it declaring bankruptcy twice in the last two decades before a dramatic revival.

The club has since shot up through the ranks of Italian football, earning promotion three times in six years to return to Serie A for the first time in 21 years, in 2024. Their fourth-placed finish under Cesc Fabregas last season completed a stunning rise to the top tier of Europe.

Como’s Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia has has undergone significant renovations over the summer in order to comply with Uefa’s rules for competitions it oversees. The stadium has capacity for around 12,000 people but that has been reduced by a further 1,000 for Champions League fixtures in order to satisfy Uefa’s broadcasting and operational regulations for the tournament, with one section of seats deemed non-compliant.

Como will also play Feyenoord, Manchester United, Lens, AEK Athens, Real Betis, Paris St-Germain and Barcelona in the league phase of their maiden Champions League campaign.
