‘Conditional Obligation’ – Nottingham Forest Knock Back Proposal For Reds Player | OneFootball

Nottingham Forest have rejected an offer from Italian side Atalanta, featuring a ‘conditional obligation’, for defender Nicolo Savona, with the Tricky Trees holding out for a higher fee.

The 23-year-old missed much of the second half of last season after suffering a knee injury.

The right-back has yet to return to team training at the City Ground, although the possibility of a departure has lingered since Atalanta first developed their interest earlier in June.

The Italian is also understood to favour a return to Serie A, where he believes he can continue his progression in familiar surroundings.

However, the two clubs have found themselves at odds over the structure of the proposed deal.

Atalanta initially sought to secure Savona on loan before making the move permanent, while the Tricky Trees preferred an outright sale.

Current indications, however, suggest the Reds are prepared to entertain a loan arrangement provided it includes an eventual permanent transfer.

As part of that approach, the Serie A outfit submitted a proposal worth €3m for the initial loan together with a ‘conditional obligation’ to buy valued at €15m.

According to Italian journalist Damiano Er Faina, Nottingham Forest have rejected Atalanta’s proposal after it failed to meet their valuation.

The Tricky Trees are seeking €23m to part company with Savona, leaving Atalanta with ground to make up before the two clubs can narrow the valuation gap.

Should the Italian side eventually meet the Tricky Trees price tag, the Reds would stand to generate a healthy profit, having signed the right-back for €13m plus bonuses despite him making only 20 appearances in Forest colours.

Whether Atalanta choose to satisfy Nottingham Forest’s valuation or instead work towards bridging the gap between the clubs remains to be seen.

Irrespective of Savona’s future, the Reds have been in the market for a replacement, seeing multiple bids for Feyenoord’s Givairo Read knocked back.
