La Liga giants Barcelona have on Friday taken a decisive step towards securing the club’s first signing of the summer.

This comes amid confirmation that the Blaugrana have deposited Joan García’s Espanyol release clause with La Liga.

An official announcement regarding the transfer, in turn, is considered imminent.

Goalkeeper Joan is expected to arrive at Barcelona to act as the no.1 in Hansi Flick’s squad for next season.

Despite the excellence of Wojciech Szczęsny over the 2nd half of the 2024/25 campaign, Deco and the Camp Nou brass identified Joan as a market opportunity simply too good to overlook.

The 24-year-old was, in the eyes of many, the very best shot-stopper in La Liga this past season, playing nothing short of a pivotal role in Espanyol avoiding relegation back to the 2nd tier.

All of a Barcelona persuasion can therefore look forward to one of Europe’s standout performers in his role plying his trade at the Camp Nou in 2025/26.
