Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has on Saturday announced the new captaincy pecking order in his squad. This comes amid confirmation that Raphinha is set to retain the armband for the duration of the season ahead.

Barca this past summer bid farewell to two leading members of the club’s captaincy contingent, namely Marc-André ter Stegen and Ronald Araújo.

With next-in-line Frenkie de Jong having also been struck down by a long-term injury setback, Hansi Flick and his staff were therefore left with a major decision to make.

Across the Blaugrana’s opening fixtures of the new campaign, the in-form Raphinha has been afforded the honour of leading his teammates into battle.

And as alluded to above, so long as the Brazilian is fit, this looks set to continue for the length of the season ahead. Drawn on the captaincy situation in Catalunya’s capital during his pre-Valencia press conference on Saturday, Hansi Flick confirmed:

“The captaincy order is Raphinha first, Pedri second, Eric García third, Frenkie de Jong fourth and Lamine Yamal fifth.”
