Former Crystal Palace attacker Christantus Uche has suffered a nightmare injury setback, with the forward now facing a spell on the sidelines for the entire season after tests ‘confirmed the worst’.
The 23-year-old spent last season at Selhurst Park on a season-long loan deal from Getafe that included an option to buy after the Eagles secured his signature despite competition from Leeds United and Wolves.
The switch to south London was designed to become permanent automatically had the striker reached ten Premier League starts, which means Getafe considered it all but a done deal.

Instead, Uche never managed to establish himself in then boss Oliver Glasner’s league lineup, being restricted to 14 substitute appearances without a single Premier League start.
Following the conclusion of the campaign, the Nigerian was ‘forced to return’ to Getafe, where he still has two years remaining on his contract.

Uche had rejoined Getafe’s pre-season preparations, but a friendly against Monaco ended in cruel fashion after the striker sustained a serious injury, abruptly derailing his preparations for the new campaign.
According to Spanish journalist Alvaro Ramos, Uche is now ‘out for the entire season’ following the medical examinations carried out.
The striker has suffered ‘several tears inside the knee’ and is set to undergo surgery to repair the damage, with his recovery timeline only pointing towards a return next season.
The setback represents a crushing blow to both his immediate trajectory and the progression of his career in Spain.

Uche initially carved out his career as a midfielder before reinventing himself as a centre-forward, a transition that paved the way for his breakthrough campaign with Getafe during the 2024/25 season.
Meanwhile, among Crystal Palace’s current striker options, Jean-Philippe Mateta is yet to reach a decision over the contract extension placed before him, with uncertainty continuing to surround his future.
The Eagles are also pressing ahead with plans to reinforce their attacking department, as they prepare an improved proposal for Alieu Njie after seeing their opening offer turned away by Torino.
