Flamengo are awaiting Conmebol’s verdict on the abandoned Libertadores match against Independiente Medellín, as the federation imposes a provisional sanction on the Colombian club.

The federation said supporters are temporarily barred from the club’s upcoming fixtures, home and away, meaning their Conmebol games will be played behind closed doors. The ban lasts 60 days and remains provisional, with a final ruling due after 19 May.

Medellín fans staged a protest against their board during the Flamengo game on Thursday, 7. Moments after kick-off, some entered the pitch, set off explosives and set fire to banners in the stands.

The referee suspended the match and Conmebol later confirmed its cancellation. Flamengo now wait to learn whether they will be awarded a W.O, a decision for the federation’s Disciplinary Committee.

A three-point award would send Flamengo into the last 16 with two rounds to spare, and Leonardo Jardim’s side would then need one more win to secure top spot in Group A.

Flamengo, meanwhile, prepare to face Vitória on Thursday, 14, at 21:30 Brasília time at Barradão in the Copa do Brasil fifth phase second leg. Having won the first leg 2-1, they can progress with a draw.
