It was a huge coup for Wanderers when they managed to seal a deal for Jimenez prior to the World Cup, with the 35-year-old having earned legendary status at the club following his first spell at Molineux that began in 2018.

As well as scoring goals for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side, which was the best Wolves team in generations, Jimenez also battled back from a life-threatening injury.

So, he is adored by the Wolves faithful, and all connected to the club were delighted when the club moved to bring him back to the Black Country after his contract at Fulham expired this summer.

Conor Coady sends message to Raul Jimenez after Wolves return in Port Vale EFL Cup win

With that in mind, the first time Jimenez stepped back out at Molineux was always going to be a special occasion, and that is what happened on Friday night in the 3-0 win over Port Vale in the EFL Cup.

César Peixoto named the ex-Benfica man on the bench as he continued to get up to speed following the World Cup, but Jimenez came on with just under 20 minutes to go.

The fans, who had been singing his song throughout, were in fine voice to greet the player, as the side sealed their place in the second round.

Jimenez was also given a great reception at full-time, and he took to Instagram to reflect on what he described as a ‘really special night’.

That brought plenty of responses from fans and former players alike, with ex-Wolves captain Coady among those to reply, as he put ‘Si Senor’, in reference to Jimenez’s song, along with a love heart and a wolf emoji.

Raul Jimenez will be pivotal to Wolves’ promotion push this season

Bringing Jimenez back to the club was a statement signing for Wolves, and he was always going to get a fantastic ovation when he pulled on the Old Gold shirt once again.

The same will happen on Friday night in what will be a bigger crowd against Blackburn, and there’s no denying that having the Mexican back on the pitch has lifted the mood at Wolves following their embarrassing relegation.

The fans will also love that Coady responded to Jimenez, as there is a great connection with the key figures from Nuno’s team, and the Wrexham defender remains a much-loved and appreciated figure at Molineux.

But, the most important aspect of Jimenez’s return is that he still has so much to offer on the pitch with his quality.

He is the ideal focal point for Peixoto with the way he can occupy defenders, lead the line, and bring others into play. Plus, as he proved with Mexico in the World Cup, he can still score all different types of goals.

As well as that, given his age and experience, Jimenez will be a leader in the dressing room, which will be important for what is a demanding Championship season.

If all goes to plan, Jimenez will look to emulate Coady by helping Wolves reach the Premier League, to add another fine chapter to his story with the club.
