Raul Jimenez made his first appearance since rejoining Wolves as a substitute in their comfortable win over Port Vale at Molineux in the EFL Cup.
Raul Jimenez received a brilliant reception from the Molineux crowd as he made his first appearance since returning to Wolves in their convincing 3-0 win over Port Vale.
The Mexican international was integral in Nuno Espírito Santo’s hugely successful Wolves side following his move from Benfica in 2018, and he battled back from a life-threatening head injury to pull on the Old Gold again.

So, Jimenez’s place in Wolves’ history was already cemented, but the striker agreed to return to the club earlier this summer after his contract at Fulham had expired.
With the 35-year-old having starred for Mexico at the World Cup, he has been slightly behind most of his teammates in terms of fitness and preparation going into the new season.
Therefore, Cesar Peixoto left Jimenez on the bench for the EFL Cup tie against Port Vale. However, the new boss called on his number nine with 20 minutes to go, as Jimenez replaced Mateus Mane.
As you would expect, footage shared by Wolves shows that the striker was given a fantastic reception from all four stands, as the home fans applauded and belted out Jimenez’s ‘Si Señor’ song, which could be heard throughout the game.
With the hosts 3-0 up at the time, it was a low-key return to action in Wolves colours, although he did show some smart footwork to open up space for a fierce shot from the edge of the box, which was well saved.
Anyone who saw the World Cup will see that Jimenez still has a lot to offer on the pitch, and he is going to be the focal point of Peixoto’s 4-2-3-1 system.
His ability to lead the line, bring others into play and, most importantly, score goals, will be massive for Wolves this season, and it was a huge coup to get him back to the club.
Yet, his return against Vale also showed that Jimenez will be able to change the mood and atmosphere around the club, as well as build a relationship again between the players and fans.
Molineux has understandably been a very angry place in recent years, as Wolves have been mismanaged by the owners, and those errors caught up with them last season as they were relegated in embarrassing fashion.

There have been some changes at the club, but the hierarchy is still under intense pressure to get things right.
Clearly, bringing Jimenez back was a positive step, and, whilst you can’t put everything on him, he is a player that will create a bond with the fans, as they know he loves playing for the club, and that attitude will also help in the dressing room.
Given his status at the club, it was an emotional night for all who saw Jimenez return to the club, and it certainly prompted a lot of responses online, and these fans were delighted to see the striker back at the club.
This fan described it as 'heaven'.
This punter spoke about the buzz around Molineux.
This supporter has 'goosebumps'.
Finally, Rob claimed the noise levels at Molineux were louder than they have been for a while now.
