Signing a midfielder in January could prove to be a massive boost to Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United ambitions.

Manchester United’s midfield, while decent in patches, has simply not been operating at the consistently high level it should.

Need for midfield reinforcements

Failing to land a dynamic midfielder in the summer, with Carlos Baleba identified as the top target, proved to be an unwise move by INEOS.

As a consequence, performances at the heart of Manchester United’s midfield have been inconsistent and have lacked the required edge. The club’s decision‑makers must now seize the opportunity to redeem themselves in the winter transfer market.

According to a report from Spain, they appear determined to do precisely that.

Gallagher bid readied

Fichajes, addressing the Conor Gallagher to Manchester United winter links which The Peoples Person has covered extensively, now reveals:

“Reports from England indicate that the Old Trafford club is preparing an initial offer of around £30 million, approximately €35 million.”

They add:

“Atletico Madrid, who paid nearly €42 million for his transfer, would welcome a sale that would allow them to recoup a significant portion of their investment from just over a year ago.”

Initially, it was claimed that United were keen to sign Gallagher on loan, but Atletico Madrid preferred a permanent deal.

These latest admissions certainly breathe fresh hope into Manchester United’s bid to hand the ex‑Chelsea man a sensational Premier League return. Should the deal go through, it would be a significant coup.

Gallagher what United need

Given that Gallagher has not played a central role at the Wanda Metropolitano, where he has predominantly featured as a squad option, he would be motivated to establish himself at Old Trafford, where his skillset is desperately needed.

A dynamic, box‑to‑box midfielder renowned for his high work rate, aggressive pressing, and ability to drive forward from deep, Gallagher could inject the bite that Amorim’s midfield currently lacks.

His brilliance could help the Red Devils push for Champions League qualification while simultaneously strengthening his own case for inclusion in Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup squad.
