Ruben Amorim is desperate for INEOS to step in during the January window to ease Manchester United’s midfield troubles.
However, following their summer splurge, the co-owners are unlikely to spend big to land the head coach’s top targets like Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson, and Adam Wharton.
That effectively means the club will likely go for a low-cost alternative. With the Red Devils preferring players with Premier League experience, a few avenues have opened up recently.
The list includes Joao Gomes, Ruben Neves, and Conor Gallagher, who is currently far from happy at Atletico Madrid.
The ex-Chelsea star played 50 times for Diego Simeone’s team last term, notching four goals and six assists in the process.
This term, the 25-year-old has started only three times in La Liga, and he is desperate to catch Thomas Tuchel’s eye as he looks to make England’s 2026 World Cup squad.

The only way for that to happen is for him to leave the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, and join a club where he will play more regularly. United can offer him just that as per Football Insider.
“Conor Gallagher would be open to moving to Man United in an attempt to reignite his England prospects ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
“The Englishman has fallen out-of-favour under Diego Simeone with his lack of minutes potentially jeopardising his spot in the Three Lions squad next summer.
“Sources told Football Insider that Gallagher could leave Atletico Madrid for around £26 million, certainly a tempting option for Ruben Amorim to bolster his midfield in January.”
Conor Gallagher can play in a variety of positions in midfield, and his energy and industry could be hugely beneficial for Amorim.
But whether INEOS will bite remains to be seen. Should they not sign anybody, Amorim will be livid.
