Corinthians’ Conselho Deliberativo has approved the expulsion of former president Augusto Melo from the club’s membership, with the official announcement still to follow. According to Meu Timao, supporters outside Parque São Jorge celebrated as the vote concluded on Monday.

The session began after the second call, with the Ethics Committee’s report on Melo read by Rodrigo Bittar, then the defence delivered its case. An appeal from Melo’s team was rejected, and both sides were allotted 30 minutes before the councillors proceeded to vote on his possible expulsion.

Councillors voted either yes to expel the ex-president or no to keep him as a member. An earlier attempt to accept defence motions drew only eight votes. The triennial councillors later closed their ballot with 144 in favour and six against, while lifetime members also showed a strong majority for expulsion.

Club president Osmar Stabile was seen in the social club area rather than the Teatro Corinthians where the meeting took place. Police deployed a heavy presence, about 30 vehicles including 15 inside the complex, with the operation aimed at protecting fans and councillors.

Former administrative director Ricardo Jorge sought to annul the session, arguing the meeting notice was not published in two newspapers, but proceedings continued. Outside, Gaviões da Fiel’s communications director Alex da Mata urged expulsion rather than lesser sanctions.

Councillor Felipe Ezabella also filed a court request to suspend the 20 June general assembly on statute reform. Earlier, former youth coordinator Dinei recalled resigning during Melo’s tenure and cited alleged irregularities, while lawyer Leonardo Pantaleão said he had received no official notice of any favourable injunction for Melo and noted his right to mount a legal defence.
