FC Bayern could soon lose its next promising talent: Javier Fernández is apparently on the verge of leaving.
According to the Italian daily newspaper Il Messaggero, the Spanish midfielder has been offered to Italian first division club Lazio Roma. His contract with the German record champions runs until the summer of 2026 – there are currently few signs of an extension.
Fernández was long regarded as a hope for the future on the Bayern campus. He was one of the most talented players in his age group and was already earmarked for higher roles. Munich officials had long-term plans for him, but a series of serious injuries put the brakes on the 18-year-old. First an ankle, then a meniscus – the central midfielder missed almost an entire season.

After a break of almost a year, Fernández is now back in team training with the U23s. The Spaniard is working on his fitness in order to recommend himself for new tasks.
His transfer from the Atlético academy in January 2023 was seen as a promising move, and he even got the chance to travel to Seoul with the professionals under Vincent Kompany in the 2024 summer preparations. However, a new injury put him out of action after he had already been sidelined for months.
It remains to be seen whether he will be able to return to the first team after this long break. A breakthrough currently seems rather unlikely. There have also been no positive signals regarding a contract extension so far – many things point to an imminent departure. A move abroad would probably be a logical consequence for both sides. FC Bayern would then have to part with another ambitious young player.
