Sport Bild reports that Stuttgart’s talks over a new deal with Deniz Undav are proving complicated. His current contract runs until 2027.
Stuttgart are keen to avoid him entering the final year, so discussions have begun to intensify.
The sticking point is term length, Undav wants a three-year extension while Stuttgart prefer two years. He turns 30 in July. A salary increase beyond his current €4.5m a year is not expected.
If there is no agreement before the summer, a departure from Bad Cannstatt cannot be ruled out. He feels comfortable at Mercedesstraße, yet clubs across Europe as well as the Premier League continue to show interest.
Despite an injury-hit start to the season, Undav is in the best form of his career. He has 14 goals and eight assists in 26 games in all competitions, a major factor in VfB’s form in the Bundesliga and in Europe.
