A contentious penalty awarded to Al-Khaleej from an unusual goal-kick infringement was saved by Yassine Bounou as Al-Hilal protested in their Saudi Roshn League meeting.
Goal.com reports that the decision triggered widespread debate. Al-Hilal had been in control, leading 5-1 at half-time at Prince Mohammed bin Fahd Stadium in the fourth round.
In the 64th minute, from a goal kick, the Moroccan rolled the ball to Kalidou Koulibaly to restart play. The Senegalese defender then picked it up to reposition it, believing the kick had not been taken.
The referee ruled the ball live once Bounou released it, penalised Koulibaly and pointed to the spot for the hosts amid protests. VAR upheld the on-field decision.
Baro stepped up for Al-Khaleej, but Bounou unsettled him with a sharp movement before saving, keeping his goal intact.
