The Copa do Brasil quarter-final draw has thrown up three state derbies, an outcome that had less than a 1% chance.
According to Globo.com, with eight clubs left there were 105 possible ties and only a 0.95% probability of all three derbies. Palmeiras face Santos, Cruzeiro meet Atlético-MG and Grêmio play Internacional, while Vasco take on Vitória.
For context, that outcome was still far more likely than landing all six numbers in the Mega-Sena lottery. The jackpot odds are 1 in 50,063,860, or 0.000002% per ticket.
The ties will be played in the weeks of 26 August and 2 September. Full fixture details, including venues and kick-off times, will be confirmed.
Reaching the quarter-finals has earned each club an extra R$ 4 million. All eight entered at the fifth phase and have accrued R$ 9 million so far. Semi-finalists will double that total, with another R$ 9 million on offer.
Phase payments are set at R$ 4 million for the quarter-finals, R$ 9 million for the semi-final, R$ 34 million for the runner-up and R$ 78 million for the champion.
The 2026 competition began in February with 126 clubs. Six knockout rounds later, only eight remain, all from Série A of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
