LaLiga’s transfer window closes on Tuesday at 23:59, and Valencia are prioritising attacking reinforcements while injuries leave their defence stretched.

According to AS, after the defeat by Betis at Mestalla Carlos Corberán said the focus is on the attacking unit. The club have made seven signings and hope to add more before the deadline.

Valencia are without Foulquier, Copete and De Haas in defence. De Haas is set to miss close to a month, while no return date has been set for the other two.

Corberán has only two senior centre-backs available in the coming weeks. One is Diakhaby, who played 90 minutes against Betis but has completed only 18 matches in the last three seasons. Before this, his last outing was in Vigo on the third of January, when he suffered a serious injury.

The arrivals of Arnau Martínez and Pablo Maffeo shore up right-back after Thierry Correia’s exit and Foulquier’s indefinite absence. Foulquier’s knee is responding to club treatment, but any timeframe depends on how he progresses. He has done some ball work of late, yet he is not ready to rejoin full training.

Copete’s situation is more troubling. He suffered a meniscus injury on 22 February against Villarreal and was operated on the second of March. A knee complication required further surgery in April, then he moved to Navarra in May to continue his recovery.

He has trained apart throughout pre-season and remains on an individual plan into the start of LaLiga. Valencia are short of numbers at the back.
