Copinha: Paraguayan defender reflects on Corinthians’ draw with Luverdense

Corinthians faced Luverdense on the evening of Tuesday (6th) at the Zezinho Magalhães Stadium in Jaú, São Paulo's countryside, for the second round of the group stage of the 2026 São Paulo Cup and ended up with a goalless draw. As a result, Timãozinho is in second place in Group 8 and only needs a draw in the last round to qualify for the knockout stage.

Right after the final whistle, defender Fernando Vera gave an exclusive interview to Cazé TV and analyzed the match. The 90 minutes were marked by little inspiration from both sides, especially from Corinthians, which, despite changes in the second half, struggled to impose themselves against the opponent.

“We all know that the Copinha is a very competitive tournament. Today was a very tough game, heavy field, but now we will rest, work on what we can in the coming days for the last round, thinking about qualification”, he said.

The most dangerous moment for Corinthians in the match happened in injury time. Midfielder Vitinho Dourado took a corner from the right towards the near post, and forward Nicolas Araújo headed it point-blank for goalkeeper Feijó to make the save. On the rebound, the goalkeeper made another intervention after a shot from defender Iago Machado inside the box.

Born in 2005 and about to turn 20 in March, Fernando Vera is experiencing his last youth competition for Corinthians and has a contract only until July 2006. After the Copinha, the Paraguayan is expected to be promoted to the professional squad or be loaned out if there is no space in the main team. Since 2023 at the club, the athlete has 58 games for the Under-20 and one goal scored.

Now, the Sons of Terrão will return to the field next Friday (9th) at 6:15 PM (Brasília time), also at Zezinho Magalhães, against XV de Jaú, for the third and final round of the Copinha group stage. The opponent is the leader of Group 8 with six points and is already qualified for the knockout stage.
