Carlos Corberán said Justin de Haas was withdrawn at half-time due to an ankle knock after Valencia's 0-0 draw with Celta at Mestalla. According to Superdeporte, the head coach made the point that the switch was not about singling out the defender on his debut.

The Dutch centre-back had been booked for a foul on Carreira, and he was replaced by Mouctar Diakhaby in the 46th minute.

He explained that de Haas took a blow to his ankle and the extent of any injury is still unknown.

On Arnaut Danjuma, who had been considered for an exit since the end of last season, Corberán said he approached the selection as he would with any squad member. He wanted a forward to offer freedom to run in behind, but acknowledged Valencia lacked the attacking accuracy they had hoped for.

The fixture formed part of LaLiga's matchday 2, and it was the first of the 19 still to be played at Mestalla's old coliseum.
