Eray Cömert has returned to group training at Paterna and will be available to Carlos Corberán for Valencia’s game against RCD Espanyol on Saturday. According to Superdeporte, the centre-back’s comeback does not alter the club’s urgency to recruit in defence.
The Swiss missed Sunday’s trip to Getafe at the Coliseum due to discomfort, despite travelling with the squad. Corberán said he tried a fitness test at the hotel on matchday and, with medical staff, decided he should not play.
The head coach outlined a hip issue affecting hamstring tendon circulation, describing it not as a specific injury but a problem that hinders playing and recovery.
He added they considered using the young centre-back Panach, but opted for Pepelu, who adapted in an unfamiliar role, having only featured there once in the Copa.
With a shortage of centre-backs, Corberán now has Cömert back for Mestalla on Saturday. Pepelu remains another option while the club await a signing at centre of defence, and only Copete, on four bookings, is fully fit.
Dani Raba is still sidelined with soleus discomfort, having missed the last two games, the Copa tie with Burgos and the league match at Getafe.
Before the evening session, the men’s first team held a minute’s silence in memory of the victims of the Adamuz, Córdoba rail accident.
