Valencia host Real Madrid at Mestalla tonight, days after Wednesday’s Copa del Rey defeat to Athletic. AS reports that Carlos Corberán has taken the 24 available players from Paterna into a hotel near the stadium.

The standout omission is Dimitri Foulquier. The right-back is not in the squad due to muscle discomfort, having decided to stop after playing through the issue against Athletic and missing training all week.

Thierry Correia returns to the bench after overcoming a muscle injury, though starting looks unlikely due to a lack of rhythm. Agirrezabala and Diakhaby remain injured, and Diakhaby is no longer registered with the first team.

Corberán has called up Vicente Abril from the B team and will make one cut before kick-off to confirm a 23-man list. Raba and Santamaría, left out against Athletic for technical reasons, are included today.

Foulquier’s absence could alter the plan, with a back five under consideration. Luis Rioja and Gayà could operate as wing-backs, with Copete, Cömert and Tárrega as centre-backs. Unai Núñez is also in contention, although he has yet to make his Valencia debut.
