Valencia have kicked off January by signing Umar Sadiq at Carlos Corberán’s request to strengthen the attack. The head coach says the squad still needs further reinforcement, with centre-back now the focus.
According to Superdeporte, Mouctar Diakhaby requires surgery and will miss the rest of the season, underlining the urgency for a defender. Corberán addressed the market in his press conference before facing Elche.
He made clear that the club will look to bring in a central defender, and wants business done early to aid adaptation. He also stressed mentality and a desire to help the team.
Recruiting a centre-back was already on the agenda before Diakhaby’s setback, which could lead to two defensive signings. Corberán stopped short of saying Valencia will pursue both, repeating that one is necessary and that the rest depends on the market.
Asked about strengthening other positions, he kept options open without firm commitments. He said it is an open market and that profiles and positions will remain internal.
