France women’s team manager Corinne Diacre today spoke about the return of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Kheira Hamraoui to Les Bleues following a year out from the national team in a tumultuous period for Hamraoui, 15 months on from an attack in the outskirts of Paris.
Diacre has justified Hamraoui’s return to the national team by citing her consistent performances for PSG and the opportunity this international break will provide to evaluate the potential squad for the upcoming World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. This is despite limited appearances for PSG this season. The following was transcribed by RMC Sport.
During a press conference, Diacre said “I want to see what impact she can bring athletically,” and that this represents an opportunity for Hamraoui “to show her desire” ahead of Les Bleues upcoming World Cup campaign in July.
Speaking more specifically about the attack and the fallout in the PSG camp, Diacre said that “We will leave the past behind us and focus on the present and future on the pitch.”
Hamraoui was the victim of an attack 15 months ago, in which her former club teammate Aminata Diallo was charged and temporarily incarcerated over her alleged involvement in the incident.
