Corinthians’ 14-year away-goal drought in Libertadores knockouts continues | OneFootball

Corinthians drew 0-0 with Rosario Central in Argentina in the first leg of the Libertadores last 16, extending their run without an away goal in knockout ties to more than 14 years. The match was at Estádio Gigante de Arroyito.

Their last such goal came on 27 June 2012, when Emerson Sheik set up Romarinho to chip Orión for 1-1 with Boca Juniors at La Bombonera. The return finished 2-0 at Pacaembu, Sheik scoring both as Corinthians won the title.

After Thursday's 0-0, when Matheus Bidu struck the post twice, Fernando Diniz's side host the return on Thursday 20 August at 21:30 at Neo Química Arena. Any draw takes it to penalties, a win sends Corinthians to a quarter-final against Estudiantes or Universidad Católica. Before that, they host Cruzeiro on Sunday in the Campeonato Brasileiro, round 23, at Casa do Povo.
