Corinthians academy full-back set to leave the club, here’s why

The left-back Denner, one of the greatest promises from Corinthians' youth categories and already sold to Chelsea (England), is not expected to play for the Parque São Jorge club again. This is because the London team requested that the young athlete remain in Europe to complete the treatment for a surgery on the meniscus of his right knee.

The information was initially disclosed by Meu Timão and confirmed by the Central do Timão. It is worth noting that the Alvinegro did not oppose the English club's request. The 17-year-old will only be able to be registered by the new club starting in February, when he turns 18 years old.

Initially, Denner was expected in Brazil between November and December to report back to Corinthians to start preparations for the 2026 Copa São Paulo de Futebol Jr. However, this will no longer be possible after Chelsea's request, as Corinthians also no longer holds the player's economic rights.

The young player was sold to Chelsea at the start of the current season for 10 million euros (a little over R$ 60 million) and four million euros (R$ 25 million) during the tenure of the ousted president Augusto Melo. Denner had signed a professional contract with Corinthians in 2024, and due to his low release clause and the club's fear of losing him to another Brazilian team, the sale to Europe was finalized.

After the negotiation was completed, the left-back only alternated between the Under-17 and 20 categories. However, after the runner-up finish in the Copinha with the Corinthians jersey, the player experienced a drop in performance, in addition to suffering some physical issues, one of which occurred during a training session with the Brazilian Under-17 National Team.

Last season, the young player participated in some training sessions with the professional team under Portuguese coach Antônio Oliveira and Argentine Ramón Díaz. Counting both Under-17 and 20, he played 58 games (38 with the older group and 20 with the younger), scoring eight goals (five with the Under-20 and three with the Under-17), achieving 30 victories, 16 draws, and 12 losses.

Currently, Corinthians' Under-20 coach William Batista has the following options for the left-back position in the Under-20: Robert Lopes (2006), Miguel Nassif (18 years old), and Lucca Vaz (17 years old).
