Memphis Depay has accused Corinthians, via social media, of breaking an agreement to extend his contract, while the club has cited financial reasons for not renewing him.

Overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, the 32-year-old forward alleged the renewal had been explicitly agreed by the president and the sporting, legal and financial departments, but that some had chosen not to honour it.

Seventh in the Brazilian Serie A, the São Paulo club has already issued a statement to justify its stance. Its president, Osmar Stabile, is expected to hold a press conference to offer further explanation.

Depay added that he would address the matter publicly in the coming days and would not let what he called unacceptable behaviour go unanswered.

He joined in 2024 on a two-year contract, winning the Copa do Brasil in 2025 and the Supercopa do Brasil this year with Corinthians. He has played 79 matches in all competitions, scoring 20 goals and providing 15 assists.
