Corinthians academy midfielder set for return after ankle injury

The midfielder André Luiz, who was developed in Corinthians' youth academy, suffered a ligament injury in his right ankle during training in recent weeks while preparing to face Atlético-MG, may return to the field in the coming days. This is because, according to information from Meu Timão, the 19-year-old athlete is already engaging in ball activities.

In addition to him, according to the report, midfielder Vitinho, who has been off the field since October 4th – a 3-0 victory over Mirassol at Neo Química Arena, during the 27th round of the Brasileirão – after suffering a meniscus injury in his knee, is still doubtful for the rest of this season.

The defensive midfielder, born in 2006, was promoted by coach Dorival Júnior to the professional squad of Alvinegro amidst the club's financial difficulties and has been an important player, even having scored a goal – against Mirassol – in one of his four matches as a starter.

He hasn't played since the defeat in the classic against Santos on October 15th, by 3-1, at Vila Belmiro, during the 28th round of the Brazilian Championship. On that day, he was brought on in the second half and was substituted in injury time after suffering a cut on his face. His debut in the main team happened on September 13th, in Corinthians' 1-0 victory over Fluminense, at Maracanã, during the 23rd round of the Brasileirão.

Recently, his contract was extended until December 2029, with salary appreciation and increased national and international release clauses. Considering Corinthians' Under-17 and Under-20 teams, he scored 11 goals in 80 games – 41 wins, 16 draws, and 23 losses. He was part of the squad that won the 2024 Copinha against Cruzeiro, and in 2023, he won the Paulistão Under-17 with Timãozinho, defeating São Paulo on penalties in the final held at Fazendinha.
